Hard Goods Plants Have you ever wondered what an entire warehouse full of any supply item a florist could dream of would look like? If you want to find out, just pay us a visit! Not only do we carry an extensive line of basic essentials like foam, glue, tools, wire, basic glass vases in all shapes and sizes, baskets, candles, ribbon, and more, but we also have the largest selection of novelty product in the upper Midwest. Sure, it can be a little overwhelming at first glance, but when you can find the preserved product, silk stems, novelty glass, specialty ribbon, and MANY other novelty containers and accessories—even large-scale event supplies—that you can’t find anywhere else, it starts to feel less overwhelming and more like a florist’s dream come true. Our hard goods buying team closely analyzes and predicts current and upcoming trends before each season so our inventory is consistent and in line with what your customers will be asking you for. In fact, we hand-curate numerous collections and in-store displays throughout the year to help you get inspired and break the cycle of what everyone else is doing. Our extensive inventory allows you to be truly unique in the market. We even invite qualifying customers on our buying trips with us, so you can see firsthand (and buy!) brand new products before anyone else. Our commitment to keeping you current in the industry is just one of the things that sets us apart. Jacquie Knutson, Hard Goods Manager Recently, plants have been gaining popularity in the market, due to social movements like “going green,” urban gardening, creating “green” living spaces, increased environmental social responsibility, and others. You’re likely seeing an increased interest in living plants from your customers as a response to this—we’re even seeing more and more weddings and events featuring live plants—and our plant department can help you meet that demand. Throughout the year, we carry over 200 varieties of green and blooming plants, along with indemand novelty items like magnetic mini succulents (one of our top sellers!), cactus gardens, mixed garden baskets, and more! We pride ourselves on our consistent inventory and quality— and on our ever-growing selection of varieties and sizes—and our connections also allow us to source plants by special request. Not only are we at the forefront of trending plants like succulents, cacti, tillandsias, large tropical foliage, and more, but we’re also your number-one source for holiday favorites and go-tos like Easter lilies, poinsettias, spathiphyllum, and many more. When it comes to care and handling to ensure long-lasting and healthy plants, we’ve got your back with a wide selection of soil, fungicides, and other amendments to give you and your customers a reliable, lush, and hardy product. Claudia Lindsey, Plant Department Manager

Visit www.kdfloralinstitute.com to view class schedules and register. Shows & Events If you ask our employees, especially those who are also floral designers, this may be their favorite part of being on the K&D team because we get a front row seat to see some of the best designers in the industry grace our stage! We’re kidding—we leave the front row seats for you! But we’re not kidding about our design shows being among our favorite and most popular events. We are proud to host a number of educational opportunities, design shows, competitions, and other events each year. Our two most popular events are the spring Wedding Design Show and the annual Fall & Winter Classic holiday design show. Guest designers like Holly Heider Chapple, Francoise Weeks, Tim Farrell AIFD, AAF, PFCI; John Hosek AIFD, PFCI, CAFA, CFD, CF; Corey Harbour, AIFD, PFCI, NAFD, CFD, and many others have shared their knowledge and design expertise from our stage. Don’t take our word for it, though. Here’s what some of our guests have said about their experience: “I enjoyed talking to other florists around the Midwest and learning about Holly’s style along with her wonderful energy. Holly really truly wanted to help us keep up with times, and she showed us her designs from start to finish!” “It is always beneficial to actually be at Koehler & Dramm. It’s a great opportunity to see salespeople face to face, tour the cooler, see what is available that we wouldn’t otherwise see when ordering on the phone. It’s also an opportunity for networking with other florists. Lunch was awesome as always! The designer was a dynamic speaker!” “It was a delight with so many opportunities to learn. You put together a powerhouse weekend.” “The designers both brought their own unique style and dynamic. I especially enjoyed Tim’s way of mentioning elements of design and ways to be profitable in this business. The designs all had a unique style, and nothing looked the same.” “It is so important to see other design styles and viewpoints to keep your own ideas fresh and exciting. We definitely came back with added knowledge and inspiration!”
Competitions As a floral designer, competing is a great way to fine-tune your skills and get real, honest feedback from qualified judges and veteran industry professionals. There is no better way to develop as a designer and further your career! Competing can be a little outside of your comfort zone, but that’s where you truly experience the challenges and gain the creative fuel that helps you grow! We highly encourage all of our customers to participate in competition opportunities. We host two annual competitions: the Designer of the Year Competition (which is paired with the student exhibition for up-and-coming designers with less than three years’ experience or those currently enrolled in classes) and the black binder Wedding Design Competition. The Designer of the Year Competition is split into two rounds. The preliminary round occurs during our Fall & Winter Classic design show, where the competitors are narrowed down to six finalists who go on to compete at the Minneapolis Home & Garden Show the following spring. The Wedding Design Competition is a black binder, photo-based competition for wedding designers. Photos of your work are submitted for judging by a panel of five designers, and the winner receives a $1,000 marketing package to help promote your business! You can learn more about these competitive opportunities on our website at www.koehlerdramm.com/competition.
